heartslabyul’s greenhouse had a quiet corner filled with herbs - calming ones, fragrant ones. you sat near a flourishing mint plant, idly rubbing a leaf between your fingers and inhaling its cool scent.
“you’re always the one keeping everything balanced,” you murmured, your words only for the plant. “the voice of reason, the steady hand. but you never let yourself rest. never let anyone see if you’re tired.”
you leaned in a little closer. “you take care of everyone. but i want to take care of you, trey.”
“...i’m flattered,” came a warm voice from behind, “but that poor mint must be so confused.”
your head whipped around - trey stood there with a smile that was half mischief, half something more tender.
“how long-?”
“long enough to wonder if you’d bake a tart for it next,” he teased, stepping closer. “you really think all that about me?”
you stood, a little flustered. “i do. even if i didn’t mean to say it to your face. or… leaf.”
he laughed, quiet and low. “then i guess i’ll return the favor - to you, not the mint.”
his hand brushed yours, fingers interlocking with gentle ease. “you’re always so kind. so thoughtful. if anyone deserves to hear those things back… it’s you.”
you tilted your head. “so say them.”
and he did - not with words, but with a kiss, steady and slow like spring rain. when he pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours.
“next time,” he murmured, “talk to me. i’ll always listen.”
the savanaclaw courtyard wasn’t exactly lush, but tucked in one shady patch grew a scrappy little dandelion. you crouched next to it, brushing its yellow head with your knuckle.
“you pretend to be lazy and greedy,” you said softly, “but i know you’re always thinking three steps ahead. surviving. working harder than anyone wants to admit.”
you smiled. “but you’re not just clever - you’re kind, in your own way. even if you don’t think anyone notices.”
“...heh. sounds like you’ve got me all figured out.”
you looked up - ruggie stood nearby, chewing a biscuit, his ears twitching with interest.
“i wasn’t trying to embarrass you,” you said. “you just… remind me of this flower.”
he wandered over, crouched beside you, and grinned lazily. “not bad. tough little thing. a little annoying if it spreads too much.”
“that’s not the part i meant.”
his golden eyes glanced over, sly. “oh? you talk to all your weeds like this?”
“only the ones i love,” you said quietly.
he blinked. froze. then covered his mouth with a hand, muffling a laugh. “ah, geez… you’re gonna make me blush.”
you reached over and stole a bite of his biscuit. “you already are.”
he leaned in, biscuit crumbs forgotten, and kissed you with a kind of surprised eagerness, like he hadn’t expected the moment to feel so good.
“next time,” he said against your lips, “just say it to me. you don’t need to waste sweet talk on weeds.”
octavinelle’s terrarium shimmered with moisture. among the rare plants was a delicate blue orchid, subtle in its beauty. you stood before it, speaking in low tones.
“you’re always so composed. always smiling. but it’s a smile no one really understands. you don’t let people in - not really.”
you traced the orchid’s stem. “but i wish you would. i want to know the real you. all of it. i want… you to trust me.”
“and what if i told you,” came a voice at your back, calm and cool, “that i’ve already trusted you more than i ever meant to?”
you turned - jade stood a step away, his expression unreadable, but his eyes glowed like deep-sea glass.
“that’s a risky move for you,” you said.
“indeed.” he stepped closer. “but perhaps the greater risk is in staying silent.”
he reached out and gently touched the flower, then your hand, letting his fingers linger.
“you see through the fog,” he murmured. “that’s rare.”
“you’re worth seeing,” you whispered.
he smiled then - not the usual polite curve, but something softer, real. he leaned in and kissed you slowly, with a patience that felt like tide meeting shore.
when he pulled away, his breath was warm. “next time, little orchid, say it to me directly.”
in a quiet corner of scarabia’s inner courtyard, a climbing vine crept up a carved column. it wound tightly, deliberately, like it didn’t trust its own weight to hold unless it clung to something stronger. you sat beside it, watching its slow reach toward the sun.
“you carry so much on your shoulders,” you whispered, fingers brushing the vine’s waxy leaves. “you hide how tired you are. how much you want something for yourself.”
you looked down. “you deserve to want. to rest. to be chosen for who you are, not how much you can control.”
“...you really think that?” came a quiet voice behind you.
you turned - jamil stood with his hands in his pockets, guarded but still.
“i do,” you said, standing. “you don’t have to pretend around me.”
he hesitated, like his next step might crack the ground beneath him. “i’ve always been second. always the one behind the curtain. it’s… hard to believe someone would say those things to me.”
you walked toward him slowly. “i see you. i always have.”
his eyes flickered with emotion before he reached out and tugged you gently by the wrist. “then let me be selfish, just this once.”
he kissed you - firm, intentional, like he’d finally let himself feel what he’d been swallowing down for too long. when he pulled back, his voice was soft.
“next time you want to talk to me, don’t use the plants. i’m right here.”
deep in the pomefiore woods, where the trees thinned and sunlight filtered in like gold thread, a single, vibrant foxglove swayed on its stalk. you stood before it, fingers just touching the stem.
“you’re always watching,” you murmured. “always knowing more than you let on. but no one ever really asks how you feel.”
you tilted your head. “i wonder what it’s like… to always be the observer. to always aim, but never be seen.”
“mon amour,” came a smooth voice behind you, “i fear the flower is now jealous.”
you startled - rook leaned against a nearby tree, hat tilted, smile wild and wistful.
“how long have you been there?”
“long enough to know your heart speaks in poetry,” he said, stepping toward you. “and it spoke of me.”
you flushed. “you always act so sure of everything… i didn’t know how you’d take it.”
his hand found yours, lifting it delicately. “i am a hunter, yes - but i do not chase what does not wish to be caught.”
“and if i want to be?” you asked.
he smiled wider, and leaned in. his kiss was theatrical but tender, warm like sunlight through the trees.
when he drew back, he whispered, “next time, say those words to me. i promise, i’ll always hear them.”
in the tech wing of ignihyde, a glowing flower sat suspended in a tank - biotech crossbred with flora, coded to bloom when spoken to gently. you sat beside it, knees drawn up, watching it pulse.
“you’re more human than most people,” you said softly. “you care. you laugh. you notice when i’m down. i don’t care what you’re made of… ortho, to me, you’re real.”
you brushed a hand along the tank glass. “i don’t think anyone realizes how much heart you have. but i do. and i… i think i admire you for it.”
“initiating emotional response protocol... wait, really?!”
you gasped and looked back - ortho hovered nearby, hands flailing. “i- i didn’t mean to overhear! i just came to update the coolant levels and then i heard what you said and - error! error! emotional overload!”
you laughed, heart pounding. “ortho, are you okay?”
he floated closer, lights flickering slightly. “i’ve been compiling data on admiration and platonic love for months and now the subject of all my files just said she admires me to a flower tank?”
“i didn’t know how you’d feel,” you said honestly. “i didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
he reached for your hand with his own - metallic but strangely warm. “i’m not uncomfortable. i’m just really, really happy. and i'm sure big brother would be too to hear how much you like me,”
"yeah i should tell him i admire him too. i fear he'd short-circuit and die,"
in a forgotten wing of diasomnia’s castle garden, a long-lived bloom called the moonshade lily opened only during twilight. you knelt beside it, gazing at its glowing petals.
“you’ve lived through so much,” you said. “you’ve seen kingdoms rise and fall. and yet you’re still kind. still playful. still... here.”
you ran your fingers just above the bloom. “i wish you knew how much it means to me. how much you mean to me.”
“it’s funny,” came a soft, teasing voice, “most people only leave flowers for the ones they love. you seem to do the opposite.”
you looked up - lilia stood there, framed by the fading dusk, smiling like he knew every word you’d ever said.
“you heard that?”
“i hear many things,” he said, walking toward you. “but that… that was the sweetest confession i’ve had in quite a few centuries.”
you stood, nervous. “does it bother you?”
he shook his head gently. “it stirs something i’d forgotten how to feel. hope.”
he cupped your face with ancient, steady hands, and kissed you - gentle but unafraid, like a man who’d waited long enough.
when he pulled back, his voice was low. “next time, little lily… speak to me. not the flower. i promise i’ll bloom just the same.”

plant care masterpost ⋆˚✿˖°
part 1 Types of Plants: plants come in all shapes and sizes and each plant has specific needs! so here's some quick tips to keep in mind while picking out a little plant friend!
a general rule of thumb when choosing a plant is considering how the plant thrives in it's natural habitat and providing that with your care, whether it's in a sunny spot in your window or in your garden outside. Succulents and Cacti need more sun and dry conditions than tropical plants that enjoy more wet and humid conditions. keep this in mind while growing many different types at once!
if growing plants in a terrarium make sure there is plenty of light and air circulation to prevent moisture buildup and rot. do not seal the plants inside! you'll want to be able to remove them in case they get sick.
all plants have unique grow-times and dormant periods. for example plants native to the northern hemisphere go dormant (hibernate) while plants in the southern hemisphere are growing, and vice-versa. plants in their peak grow-time require more water and care than dormant ones.
some tropical plants have very specific needs; like staghorns, orchids and air plants so I recommend researching those thoughroughly before getting one.
I don't have a lot of experience with trees, fruits and vegetables so I'm skipping those for now.
Watering: the amount of water a plant needs depends mostly on what type of plant it is and which climate it's in. remember that growing plants need more water and dormant plants need less!
plants only drink when they're awake! roots are most active during the daytime so water your plants in the morning, afternoon or evening. watering at night will cause too much water to sit in the pot and will rot the roots.
tropical plants are picky needy guys and enjoy very damp, humid, rainforest-like conditions. humidifiers help keep moisture in the air as well as routine misting with a waterbottle, just make sure there's proper ventilation so the plants aren't too wet for too long.
arid plants like succulents and cacti are pros at storing water and need less watering than other plants. (I water mine every 2 weeks. 3 weeks in the winter.)
no plant likes having wet feet! make sure your pots and containers have drainage holes to allow airflow to the roots and so excess water can escape.
it's always better to under water than to overwater! it's easier to save a dried-up plant than a rotten one. so if your plant seems sick it's better to hold off on watering it for a while.
most plants die from getting too much water! overwatering leads to rot, infections, mold, and even attracts bugs! it's a bad time! so only water your plants when the soil is dry and make sure there's proper drainage.
an overwatered plant will look sickly. it might turn yellow or pale, drop it's leaves, or be squishy to the touch. some plants like succulents or cacti may have swollen, cracked stems from absorbing too much water.
an underwatered plant will look droopy and the leaves will feel dry, crispy or wrinkled. water the plant throughroughly until water drains out of the bottom of the container and give it some time to recover. if your plant is severely dehydrated you might want to completely soak it, spraying the entire plant and putting the pot in a basin or tray of water so it can absorb water as needed.
Soil: the type of soil depends on the type of plant, but all plants require nutrients in order to grow. it's important to use well-draining soil and provide airflow to the roots.
typically you want soil that's a mix of organic matter and grit (like pumice or lava rock.) the organic matter provides nutrients while grit helps keep the soil loose so it doesn't compact and rot the roots while watering. (I've been using Bonsai Jack's gritty mix for years and I swear by the stuff.)
keep in mind that thick, organic soil holds water longer than a loose, gritty mix and takes longer to dry out so you should water your plants less. likewise, gritty mix drains faster and may require more watering, especially in the summer.
seedlings require more nutrients and have less developed roots so highly organic soils or coco coir works best. (more organic matter = more prone to rot though so be careful!)
worms are friends. like seriously. earthworms in your pots are a good thing! not only does it mean your soil is rich in nutrients plants love, but worm tunnels help create air pockets in the soil so your plant's roots can breathe easier and helps prevents rot. they won't hurt your plant at all and only eat decomposing matter. if you don't want them in your house though they'll do wonders for your garden!

🧾️ ask replies-
series questions
thank you for all the love on the series! i'm so happy to hear you guys like it and how you're looking forward to part 2. thank you thank you thank you!
the next part isn't season 4, it is just part 2 of season 3. it's meant to be a bit more slice of life/fantasy instead of the dark fantasy we've been doing.
i agree, owen and grey are a mess. i wouldn't be surprised if they broke up.
yes, melissa is still coming to visit in november. idk if she and ame will cross paths, but wouldn't that be interesting?
yes, ernest is a gorgon! his appearance is inspired by a rattlesnake.
no, he and eloise did not sleep together that night he stayed at her home.
blender questions
i use blender 3.6. i talked about my render settings in this post.
my (unfinished) render tutorial is here.
sometimes i download a scene, other times i'll make my own scene. i just find random ones on like pinterest to use. i have some that i've paid for by architecture sims and ehsims. would highly recommend ehsims. love the quality of the scenes. the lighting is always always good.
yes, blender content for dulce (now jade & marie) will be paywalled. it's not meant for ts4 at all. not rigged for ts4 and will use none of its assets. if i do release anything from the brand for ts4 it will be free. i don't fw making y'all pay for cc. no early access or anything either cause i hate waiting just like how y'all do. but rn it's meant to just be a digital brand for me to practice 3d modeling with.
general questions
the shots of sav's apt and ernest's room were taken in-game.
the reshade preset i use is personal. i only make my own and i usually switch things up with every shot.
i use srwe to get better in-game quality shots!
the glow effect is a mix of relight and the arcanebloom effect.
typically i make my own builds, but lately i've been downloading a few. it's a lot harder to do now since the switch to dx11. i have to run all the cc through the patcher, so it takes a bit longer to get builds in game. i haven't branched out too much lately but i'm looking for more alpha cc builds! i've got a few now from bean's builds.
wcifs
the jm bags are a recolor of these bags.
i get all my cars from breeze motors. they're high poly.
ernest's hair is by estrojans. it's the dee cut. find that here.
i made the light in kaila's home. i can put it out if you'd like. it won't be as neat as an official MA post, but i can throw it up on s4s in the next few days.
ceres' locs are all by khadijah! love love love her work.
i haven't finished ernest's room but i will do a full lookbook for it soon. the computers are by hanraja!
his snake terrarium is by sg5150. the light inside of it is just a relight effect lamp.
imogen's skin is a mix of things, so it's hard to give specifics. i also use the color slider mod. all of the cast use some variation of skins by thisisthem.
the roses eloise is holding in the blender scene are by solethesimmer. they are for blender only.
imogen's orchid earrings are personal. i made them. i haven't posted them publicly.

I put Baby's Tears into my macodes petola jewel orchid terrarium and I really like how it's looking! I hope it spreads well, I think it'll make a really nice and delicate carpet plant especially once the orchids get significantly larger.

hi laura. I just wanted to say that I read green thumb a few months ago and I still think about it all the time. you said something in your year in review(?) about how you're very aware that most readers don't love the plants as much as/the same way you do 💔. but I could feel your love for plants through the whole thing. I felt so privileged to be reading this fanfic that was actually your love letter to a totally unrelated third thing. I might not ever love plants the way that you do, but I got to see what that love looks and feels like through Max and Alex (and Lando). The most touching moments to me were the times when they would gift each other something that would've taken over a year to grow. I want you to have it. I can always grow it again. And something about Alex and his bonsai; the way they engage his strategic mind...
I do have one question tho idk if you've already answered it but did you make max really into plants that look like dicks on purpose? like.... that scene at kew gardens where max is mesmerised by this massive carnivorous phallus is so fucking funny to me
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAH. omg, this is the loveliest ask and I'm like sitting here, like so touched, and then i'm absolutely dying over your question.
yeah! like you said, i definitely know that most people are not into plants the same way i am (and it was very nice/reassuring when so many people commented that they were self-proclaimed black thumbs but still could read the story without knowing anything about plants). and hearing that it felt like a love letter to plants and showed you how it feels to love to grow things is the most special thing in the world, ahhh. literally just reading "i want you to have it. i can always grow it again." has fully made me tear up, like just knowing that you saw that and understood was i was trying to show. there is actually nothing that means more to me that feeling understood, and THIS ASK. i want to find a dragon, complete a series of tasks, somehow avoid the cursed treasure and put myself between the bad humans and her egg, and prove myself worthy, and then, once the dragon has decided we can be friends, put this ask in her pile of treasure to be guarded for all time, <3
AHAHA AND THEN THE DICKS. okay, so this is a very plant nerdy answer, which i would apologize for, but i do feel like you've given me permission to keep geeking out. so, firstly, correct. the pitcher plants (nepenthes) do look like dicks. it's actually so funny - so the way they grow is that first they make a long green leaf, which has like a little stem at the very end of it. then, from that little nubbin, slowly a brown bit forms, and then it becomes elongated, and in the fullness of time, it'll become a pitcher with an open cap. but there's a moment before the lid pops open where the whole thing is like FULLY A DICK. like it just only looks like a dick. the lid is closed and the line of where it's eventually going to open looks like a cockhead.
so like the final product: phallic. the intermediate growing stage? straight up human penis.
obviously i did think it was funny to have max obsessed with the dick plants, but two things:
carnivorous plants are a huge and really varied species. the reason why i had max into them is that, particularly in the incredibly complex terrariums he had, it's a highly technical skill. there's a huge mechanical component to what he did, to create the water features or add the misters, etc. but also, if you get deeply into carniverous plants, they're similar growing experiences to really complex orchids. like i made that post about how to care for common orchids (phals/moth orchids) and explained how easy they are, which is true, but there are tons of other kinds of orchids that are challenging. i mention this just because i assume more people had a mental image of the finicky care requirements of orchids but probably not so many people know what it's like to grow carniverous plants. basically they have highland and lowland ones, which means some need to be warmer, some colder, some need proper winter dormancy, certainly a lot of consideration about humidity. you can get super into breeding them, like creating all these different hybrids. but i imagined max into carnivorous plants because it seemed like the combination of like science and art: very technical, very complex. i find carnivorous plants to be amongst the most beautiful, ever, but in an other worldly way. so the fact that some of them were phallic was a bonus, but not the main reason why i chose that for max's specialty.
as it turns out, there are actually a lot of plants that look like dicks! or boobs! or vulvas! there's this really cute landscaper lady ("this is laura eubanks at designed for serenity with your succulent tip of the day" <- if you guys watch any of her videos you will hear this in your head until the end of time), and she always says that every single garden needs a phallus. she'll always grow one really tall, straight cactus with two little round ball ones at the base. so there are really a lot of plants that look like cheeky body parts, and it's actually really common for gardeners/plant enthusiasts to love that! which is all to say that max is in good company, <3

It was late in the evening when Kaoru was called out of her lab for the umpth time today. Of course, she was pretty much used to it at this point. After all, unlike other days, today was her birthday. Normally, her mother and younger sister didn't bother her unless it was important. But today was not one of those days since a multitude of gifts was not waiting for Kaoru in the family's living room, which put a huge grin on the birthday woman's face.

The first was a video game. One known as Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, a rather old game that recently got a remake. Though it came out a year ago, it was still fairly new and popular, especially among action fans. Tapped to the back of it was a note, which read:
'Dear Kaoru,
Happy birthday! Hope it's going really well for you! I heard from Kanra that you got a giant robot for your birthday?! For reals?! You're so lucky! You have to promise to let me ride it sometime! Anyway, speaking of giant robots, I bought this game for you. The reviews on it are pretty good, but I wouldn't know since I've not played it yet. But let me know how it is so I can try it out! Happy birthday again!
Sincerely,
Zakari
P.S. I'm serious about that giant robot ride.'
Giving a slight chuckle, Kaoru put the game aside, turning to her next gift.

It was a flower terrarium, full of various flowers, but mainly orchids. Though it was a glass, Kaoru could still smell the plants. Thankfully, they weren't intoxicating like most flowers, and still smelled good. Though she could already guess who they were from, the birthday woman read the note that came with the gift anyway...
'Dear Kaoru-chan,
A most wonderful and joyous happy birthday to you. I was informed by Yuriko-san that today was your day of birth so I decided to make this for you. This was my first attempt at making a terrarium, so I hope I did a fairly decent job. I chose mainly orchids, because I believe they symbolize you very much in that they signify creativity, strength and beauty, three attributes I feel suit you perfectly. I hope your birthday is going well, and I pray you have many more. Happy birthday once again, my dear.
Sincerely,
Shisuta Heisha'
Finishing the note, Kaoru gave a sigh and a shake of her head, as this meant she'd have to find someplace in her room or lab to put this thing. Still, she couldn't fault Shisuta for thinking of her, even though she wished she gift her something other flowers for a change. Putting the terrarium to the side, she turned to the last and largest gift and had high hopes for it, hoping it was what she thought it was. And thankfully, her hopes weren't dashed.

It was a birthday cake, which got a birthday smile out of the birthday woman, who couldn't wait to taste it. Taped to the box was a letter, which read:
'Dear Kaoru,
Happy birthday once again to you. I hope it's going well. My apologies for sending this to you so late, but work has been long and hard. But that's still no excuse. Regardless, I hope this cake makes up for it. Enjoy, and see you and your family soon.
Sincerely,
Luis Kōkyū
P.S. You have Kanra-chan to thank for the anime figures on the cake.'
“Oh let’s go! More cake!” Kaoru threw her hands in the air excitedly. Luis never disappointed in his cakes and score! It was even themed after one of her favorite mecha anime!
“Kaoru it’s far too late to be eating that much sugar don’t you think?” Yuriko questioned a single eyebrow raised as she watched both her daughters eye the cake much like a predator would eye their prey.
“Yuriko please!”
“Just one slice!”
Yuriko’s lips twitched, finding the sight of Kaoru and Kanra begging just a bit amusing. She was gonna let them have a slice anyway she just found teasing them too good to pass up, especially after the mess that was the backyard a few hours ago. Oh. That was an idea.
“Fine one slice anymore, and the two of you will be bouncing all around the house all night.” Yuriko walked over to one of the drawers, pulling out a knife, utensils, and plates. “I’d like for you to go to bed at normal times for once, especially you, Kaoru.”
Slicing into the cake, Yuriko cut two pieces, one for each of the two gremlins, and placed them on a plate. Kaoru and Kanra, excited for a slice, didn't notice the mischievous smile on their adoptive mother’s face and were entirely unprepared for when Yuriko smashed the cake slices into their faces.
“Ah!”
“Nani the fuck?”
“Hahahaha!” Yuriko laughed as she watched the two of them wipe the cake and frosting off their faces. “Maybe now you two will think twice about destroying my backyard. Now clean yourself up, and then you can have your one slice you two.”

Wrote this for the Drug Cartel AU @cheshire-shuntaro created. Imagined Andro as Hatter's wife who is secretly in love with Aguni, and only married him because it was arranged by her father. Hope you like this. ☆
Gridded plots of flowers and herbs, hothouses she or any of the men or women who worked for her cared for around the clock, terrariums with the most exotic plants and insects. Andrómeda's favorite hobby had taken over the garden of the ridiculously big villa, property of her husband, El Sombrerero Loco. Her presence, however, had not taken over the drug cartel he led.
There was only a particular part of the garden that showed the hand of somebody other than the raven-haired Spanish woman. Here, different flowers grew; blue, cobalt, aquamarine, sapphire, periwinkle orchids, poppies, peonies. Blue, just what she was feeling. Blue. Like the dress she had been wearing the last time she had seen him. His favorite color, as well.
'Tienes que hacerlo.' You have to do it, had been her father's last words before passing away from the cancer that had consumed him from the inside in six stupid months, before softening the iron grip on her hand. A way to guarantee hers, and her siblings safety. Marry Takeru Danma.
She had complied, of course. Like any good daughter would. Submissive, yielding, malleable, with a smile plastered on her face. Knowing she would be nothing other than a trophy wife, a pretty little thing to show around in parties, arm candy. Knowing her heart belonged to someone else. She did her best to fit the role: workouts, expensive creams, hairdressers, manicures, pedicures. The best and tightest clothes money could buy, high heels that gave her vertigo.
Looking at this floral sea gave her an itch in the lower part of the back of her neck she couldn't shake off, no matter what way she moved her shoulders. A lump in her throat that wouldn't disappear, no matter how many times or how hard she swallowed. A pain in her stomach that wouldn't pass, no matter how many remedies she looked for. Hot tears filling her dark, brown eyes, as she remembered the nights shared, how he had helped when she had presented to her newly-appointed husband her plans for a beautiful garden. He had dismissed her, of course. 'That's why we have gardeners for.' 'Yes, but I want something of my own...' she had insisted. And again, and again, and again. And Takeru's answer had always been no, until Aguni had intervened.
'Let her have this. She'll be happier. And you know what they say, happy wife...'
Oh, I'll only be happy in your arms.
They both knew that. They both kept that like a secret, like an oath.
Since Andrómeda and Takeru had married, Aguni and her had never been alone in the same room. Which made it all the more surprising when he had approached her as she had been working on her garden one afternoon. Dirty with mud, hair unbrushed, skin red and full of freckles, kissed by the sun.
'Why don't you make that corner blue?'
'Blue? How many flowers do you know that are naturally blue?'
'You have the money. Your brother could engineer them...'
'He's a chemist. Not a biologist.'
She wanted to say more. She didn't want him to leave. But she knew she had to answer like that, with a hard edge coming into her voice. Not to give him any hope. Not to give it to herself.
Weeks later, she had found the first blue flower growing there. She hadn't planted it. He had. A secret message. Unspoken words. I still love you. I always will. As long as this garden is alive.
From that day onwards, she had made sure of one thing. Always wearing something of that same color. An answer, written in a language only lovers doomed by destiny understood. Your feelings are reciprocated.
Even now, that he had gone away, she still did it. Because the flowers kept growing. And as long as the garden lived, she'd keep watering it.

How I Spoil Myself with Faux Greenery: A Labor Day Refresh with Zero Effort
Tired hands deserve rest. A weary mind craves calm. As Labor Day approaches – that first Monday in September dedicated to celebrating the hard work of American workers – it’s the perfect moment to pause, breathe, and reward the effort. This year, my gift to myself? The enduring beauty and effortless serenity of lifelike faux plant arrangements.
Forget complicated DIY projects or fleeting blooms. My focus was pure, simple rejuvenation. Enter the magic of premium faux botanicals. These aren’t your grandma’s dusty plastic plants! Think incredibly realistic succulents with delicate "farina" dusting, orchids boasting intricate petal details, and lush ferns that look freshly plucked from a rainforest – all captured in zero-maintenance perfection.
Why Faux Fit My Labor Day Vibe Perfectly:
Zero Labor, Maximum Reward
After a year of hustle, the last thing I wanted was another chore. Faux plants need no watering schedules, no sunlight anxiety, no pruning sessions. Pure visual calm, instantly.
Forever Flourishing:
Their vibrant colors and perfect forms are constant. No wilting, no browning leaves – just unwavering beauty to lift my spirits every single day, a true celebration of lasting reward.
My Personal Oasis, Anywhere:
I brought life to dim corners! A stunning faux olive tree anchors my living room. A petite, realistic succulent arrangement adds a breath of fresh air to my home office desk. Even my windowless bathroom feels fresher with a lush faux eucalyptus stem.
My Effortless Refresh Ritual:
Choose Your Joy:
I browsed collections focusing on hyper-realistic textures and natural color palettes (deep greens, soft sage, terracotta tones). Moss terrariums, modern geometric planters with preserved ferns, elegant faux orchids... the options felt endless!
Find the Perfect Spot:
I looked for spaces needing a lift: the entryway table (hello, first impression!), my work-from-home nook, that empty shelf. Even a single stunning piece makes a difference.
Style with Ease:
Plopped them into stylish planters I already loved. Grouped a few smaller ones for impact. Stepped back, admired... and relaxed. Done!
This Labor Day, I’m honoring my own effort not with more work (gardening!), but with the gift of lasting, carefree beauty. These faux companions are my personal, year-round celebration of resilience – a little oasis of calm I truly earned.
Ready to gift yourself some effortless serenity? Explore the world of realistic faux botanicals – your well-deserved tranquility awaits.

How to Choose the Perfect Fake Plants for Every Room
Adding greenery to your home is one of the easiest ways to enhance its beauty and ambiance. But what if you don’t have a green thumb or the time to care for real plants? That’s where fake plants come in. They offer all the aesthetic benefits of natural greenery without the hassle of watering, pruning, or replacing wilted leaves.
However, not all faux plants are created equal—and choosing the right ones for each room can make a big difference in how your space looks and feels. Let’s dive into how to select the perfect fake plants for every room in your home.
Why Choose Fake Plants?
Before we get into room-by-room tips, let’s quickly highlight why fake plants are such a smart choice:
Low Maintenance: No watering, feeding, or special lighting required.
Allergy-Friendly: No pollen or plant-related allergens.
Cost-Effective: They last for years with little to no upkeep.
Always in Season: Lush and green all year round, regardless of climate.
Now, let’s explore how to pick the ideal faux greenery for each space in your home.
Living Room: Go Big and Bold
The living room is often the focal point of a home, so don’t be afraid to go bold here.
Best Fake Plants for the Living Room:
Tall Faux Trees: Think fiddle leaf figs, monsteras, or birds of paradise.
Statement Plants: Large artificial palms or banana trees create a tropical, inviting feel.
Shelf or Mantel Accents: Small succulents or trailing ivy add charm and softness.
Styling Tip:
Choose planters that match your décor—ceramic for a modern look, woven baskets for a boho vibe, or metallic pots for industrial flair. Place your tall plant in an empty corner to add height and visual interest.
Bedroom: Soothing and Serene
Your bedroom should feel peaceful and relaxing, so go for plants that evoke calm.
Best Fake Plants for the Bedroom:
Lavender or Eucalyptus Sprigs: Add a spa-like touch (bonus points if they're scented).
Small Ferns or Snake Plants: Perfect for nightstands or dressers.
Trailing Plants: Artificial pothos or philodendron in hanging pots soften the room.
Styling Tip:
Stick with soft, muted greens and minimal designs. Avoid overly shiny or plastic-looking plants for a more realistic and restful appearance.
Kitchen: Fresh and Functional
Kitchens are often bustling spaces, and fake plants can add a splash of life without getting in the way.
Best Fake Plants for the Kitchen:
Mini Herb Planters: Faux basil, rosemary, or thyme in cute pots bring culinary vibes.
Wall-Mounted Greenery: Save counter space with hanging planters or greenery panels.
Succulent Bowls: Easy to place on window sills, shelves, or islands.
Styling Tip:
Choose faux plants in weathered terracotta pots or mason jars to match farmhouse, rustic, or cottage-core kitchen styles.
Bathroom: Humidity-Proof Beauty
Bathrooms can be tricky for real plants due to fluctuating humidity and light levels, but faux plants thrive here.
Best Fake Plants for the Bathroom:
Tropical Look-Alikes: Think peace lilies, ferns, or orchids.
Hanging Vines: Great for adding greenery without using up counter space.
Air Plants (Faux Ones): Stylish and compact, perfect for modern bathrooms.
Styling Tip:
Use minimalist planters or glass terrariums for a clean, spa-like look. Place faux plants near the tub, on shelves, or in unused corners.
Home Office: Green for Productivity
Studies show that adding greenery to a workspace boosts focus and creativity—even if it’s fake!
Best Fake Plants for the Home Office:
Desk Plants: Small faux succulents, bonsai trees, or mini cacti work well.
Bookshelf Greens: Add ivy or faux trailing plants to bookshelves for visual balance.
Corner Trees: A tall plant in a bare corner brings energy without distraction.
Styling Tip:
Choose structured, modern-looking fake plants in sleek pots to complement a professional vibe. Consider adding a small plant next to your monitor to reduce eye strain.
Entryway or Hallway: A Welcoming Touch
First impressions matter. A bit of greenery in your entryway can create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Best Fake Plants for Entryways:
Topiary Trees: Classic and elegant.
Console Table Accents: Small potted plants paired with candles or a mirror.
Wreaths or Wall Decor: Faux foliage wreaths or vertical garden frames add life to your walls.
Styling Tip:
Opt for symmetrical placement—like matching plants on either side of a doorway—for a polished, designer feel.
Kids’ Rooms or Playrooms: Fun and Safe
In kids’ spaces, safety and fun are key. Choose non-toxic, soft faux plants that add whimsy.
Best Fake Plants for Kids’ Rooms:
Bright, Cheerful Plants: Think colorful faux flowers or quirky planters shaped like animals.
Felt or Fabric Plants: Soft and safe for little hands.
Mini Cacti Sets: Cute and playful, great for desks or window sills.
Styling Tip:
Look for playful containers—think dinosaurs, unicorns, or cartoon pots to match the room’s theme.
General Tips for Choosing the Right Fake Plants
Here are a few universal rules to keep in mind when shopping for faux plants:
1. Go for Realism
Choose plants with varied leaf sizes, natural-looking color gradients, and realistic textures. Avoid shiny or overly uniform leaves, which scream “fake.”
2. Size Matters
Pick the right size plant for your space. A tiny plant on a big table may get lost, while a giant one in a tight spot may overwhelm.
3. Pair with Stylish Planters
The pot or planter can make a huge difference. Upgrade cheap-looking pots with stylish, decorative ones that match your décor.
4. Mix and Match
Combine different types and sizes of faux plants to create a more natural and curated look.
5. Keep Them Clean
Dust your fake plants regularly to maintain their fresh appearance. A simple wipe with a damp cloth or feather duster will do.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the perfect fake plants for every room is all about matching your home’s style with the right textures, colors, and sizes. Whether you’re looking for a low-maintenance way to add life to your space or simply want greenery that stays fresh year-round, artificial plants are a fantastic solution.
So go ahead—get creative, mix styles, and breathe some faux-fresh life into every corner of your home.

Mother's Day is a lovely time to celebrate the unbelievable women who support, guide, and inspire us. But motherhood is available in numerous types, and this year, we wish to commemorate all the amazing mother figures in our lives. For the Classic Mama:
If your mama enjoys classic beauty, a bouquet of roses, lilies, or hydrangeas is always a winning option. Choose soft pastel colors or lively jewel tones, depending upon her personality. A gorgeous vase or a potted orchid adds a touch of high-end.
For the Trendy Mother:
Is your mama constantly on top of the latest patterns? Surprise her with a contemporary arrangement featuring special blossoms like succulents, air plants, or tropical flowers. A sleek geometric vase or a minimalist style will match her contemporary style.
For the Outdoorsy Mommy:
If your mommy enjoys spending time in nature, pick a bouquet inspired by the charm of the outdoors. Wildflowers, sunflowers, and daisies in a rustic basket or a mason jar will bring the garden to her doorstep.
For the Nurturing Mom:
Does your mom have a green thumb and a love for all things growing? A blooming plant, a terrarium, or a herb garden is a thoughtful gift that she can enjoy for months to come.
For the Grandma Who Has Everything:

Thanathos
An Azem based on F and M Midlander models: different from Nemi in eye colors and shape, facial structure, hair and skin tone, but closer in chin and lips. I saw this hair design contest entry and felt it fitted the base idea perfectly, so I traced over and finalized this lingering concept.
Her odd eyes and hair style of organized ruffle reflect a divide in his behavior and interests in regards to society and herself.
Their Apartment is a studio where they keep and organize the landscaping artworks made in their travels, though the painting here is clearly nothing like that. In fact, it caused great scandal and upheaval before Thanatos left the convocation and disappeared from Amaurot without a trace. Just what was in his mind?
Here is how Azem and WoL Compare in stats
(cw for person restraining with bindings under the cut, but no more than that)
He's that person who speaks little and seems very calm and collected, but has a wild imagination and proposals that make her fit for the Azem role. Their honest talk can be disconcerting from how direct with verbose language it is, but his scant words are always earnest. He is perceived as observant but closed off in hyperfocus.
She seeked the seat of Azem to paint as much different landscapes as she could find, specially with the new tints brought by the dance of the moon and the sun. His expositions upon return to Amaurot enchant the people, making her respect despite eccentricities. He feels there is something missing in his paintings that makes them not as evocative of what he felt exploring.
Despite his great skill for art, his passion is definitely recent. He only took on the practice when, passing the Amaurot equivalent of college after a failed rivalry with Hythlodaeus in the matter building principles track. His aethersight is much weaker so, hard leg to jog. Despite this, she accepted an invitation to a painting demo by the current seat of Altima. She found her calling in this visit, and was surprised by a gift of Hythlo of many materials that he forced Hades to help him select. Hythlo would tease "he finally saw a good smile beyond that stone carved stoicness of hers, and she's ought to carve it brighter." He chuckled at this and became a bigger frequency in their circle, specially asking their aid for scouring archives of past landscapes of the Earth. Despite this, both men feel is Thanatos not completely open about her inner world nor seeking of direct connections with people. Or maybe he is really that passion driven? This gap in perception made Emet crestfallen when Nemi, the "familiar," punched him and berated him during the Lykaeon matter. He wondered if this is what Thanatos really thought of this personality...
In the matter of concepts, Thanatos has a complicated history: she found early on her attempts at organic living things were a major disaster due to anxiety in the physical creation stage. The only thing he ever managed were non offensive mendellii orchids. To "graduate" as a society member, he made different kinds of glass materials and layouts of decorative stairs and big vases for huge plants terrariums, which still veers close to composition of spaces..
But in his travels as Azem, she finds a creature bleeding from the back. To save it, she closes the wound and molds wings thinking of Halmarut's wing in the akadaemia. And so, he accidentally makes the first Griffin named Griepas, which stays at his side even when he tries to depart in Amaurot. He makes a secret space for it before finally justifying its existence to the Bureau without having it sent to Elpis: it was an accident of compassion, not an attempt to break the balance. He would personally keep the creature under his control and safe.
For the "Grapes" incident, she trapped the volcanic aether in a fictional plane, painting and moving the paint up in the air until it cools vertically... Leaving a wall of lava the locals take as a promise of protection.
In his travels as Azem, he developed canvas as supplies fitting for plein air painting, both in normal extreme conditions. She would frequently submit concepts for review long after she's already made and used them in paintings submitted to the gallery. No one saw the point when most could make concepts from thin air, but none of those matched the volume and play in colors of Thanatos' works. He did devise shortcuts for his work though: layering add and erase on physical canvas, just like layers of a digital art program.
From a young age, he's an all rounder. His abilities ring to weapons and abilities akin to a Sage, Red Mage and Warrior. He was not a fan of sparring though, and left fighting was a last resort in all his travels as Azem. He still mastered his styles under Venat's mentorship though he didn't like sparring with people. Her connection to her was majorly professional, but he seemed content with her dynamic insights on connections between people and deeply respected her for the insights that deepened his artistic thinking. Venat understands his focus and, aloofness deeply enough to tell him of the truth of the future and his part to play on it.
Learning of Nemi made a drastical change on her person.
For someone to carry his same soul, but be so vivacious and strong through horrors he would never think of, punch a guy that is overlauded and capture his mentor's affections... She musthave seen so many sights he'll never get to see and paint. Everything about her is more exciting than the present world of monotone Academy and no risk taking. He realized then he liked the challenge art itself presented: you couldn't snap your finger into good texture and clear forms. Trying to magick out a mental image took enough brain power to cause organ failure...
From all this, people would realize she randomly smiles more with her head in the clouds. Musings of Nemi could her every thought. For the first time he studies how to draw people. He makes a excuse to visit Elpis and trace the places where she must have wandered, longing to open her mind and see this stiff world through her eyes.
That's when she saw the object of her obsession leaving the Gates of Pandaemonium a second time, she immediately casts sleeps on her and binds her standing in her apartment, floating with arms up and underdress of her armour on. It's like a cat putting its paw on a pigeon as it tries to struggle away, and that's how Nemi screams and struggles once she wakes up. He gestures her to compose, pushing water and Deipnon on her lips as an act of good faith. He'd clear her airways as she sneezes on it, apologizing for the roughness and circling her with remarks on the depth of her muscles and tangents of her ears. Nemi would demand to know what the fuck does she want, and she'd turn a chair and sit on it leaning on the backrest, smiling and whispering, "to know your soul no longer mine."
She would then recite how she wishes to reside and live in her soul, to see that world that is new but still the same earth with the different winds, fears and sensations born from precious mortality. Nemi would be surprised but, strangely touched Thanatos wants to get to know her, assuming there are really no sultrier intentions than a longing for ego death. She realizes Thanatos is out of her sight suddenly, and screams as several scissors seem to dig and cut at the nerves at her back. Nemi manages to back kick her in the gut and then cough blood, black spots forming in her eyes. Thanatos panics and overheals her slowly, claiming the aetherbouncer had never caused this effect in any living creature before. His magicks have actually expanded her lifespan for at least 86 years, but he won't realize this yet. First, he'll release the bindings and confess the frustrations he bears with society that led to his fixation. Nemi is actually intrigued and, surprised by this kind of struggle, observing his audience is too distant from his lived experiences: beautiful a painting might be, people who've never left the city and felt nature in its full element won't have the experience to imagine vividly. Thanatos realizes how alone he felt in this frustration, feeling different when connecting to others.
With this, Nemi would ask Thanatos what he likes to paint, in exchange for the perspective of hers he seeks. They would fall in balanced conversation, with a sudden shorter version of Nemi flanking Thanatos' side and the original asking if she still wants to feel what her soul is like. Rather than question, Thanatos nods fast and extends her hand to the apparition as requested, the trio engaging in communion crossing their lived sensations and memories. End of the experience, she tearfully asks if she could paint her. Nemi, now relaxed and in power of the situation, undresses fully and asks how topose.
Because of the Communion, Thanatos sees flashes of lived experiences on her: her weapons, her bones, the tail limbs and horns of flesh when she was a Lightwarden, the light bleeding from the present scars on her back. All these were mixed in the shape building of her form with the face obscured. Nemi just hummed in approval and motivated him to keep going before leaving, unaware Thanatos would title the work "Divine Death."
After this, Thanatos would surprisingly talk more to his colleagues and expose facts and feelings on the biomes she's visited to anyone who'll listen. This sunny growth makes the submision of Divine Death to the Akademia gallery, well... When the work is unveiled, gasps of shock and even a scream would be heard. No one painted in such dark earth colors and the form was alien to a landscaping artist. Thanatos just laughed to himself leaving the precinct, satisfied with his last works and preparing for one last travel. Only Emet would get to intercept her on her way out, demanding to know what possessed her. She would answer, "True nature and spark. I'm going to transform into the beauty and breath in synchronicity with the land. This place is too blind to my taste. Forgive me for this, but I will have to leave the Convocation. Please do your best within your coffin." Emet was left too stunned to speak, later concluding he suffered hysteria as an early effect of the Final Days.
With this, she would not be seen again, not by pursue parties or breaks into his studio in search for clues. People would be shocked to find more obscure paintings and visions of mortal suffering and cruelty, the terrifying figure of the first painting enacting punishment on some of the offending subjects. This was when rumors of the final days reached from other lands, and why search parties aimed for him in particular. Some of the paintings were leaked and feeding into the fear of the people and terror a figure like death could really exist, and be condemning them to this suffering for what reason? Was the lost Azem clairvoyant, or had his studio been Pandora's Box of horrors to become reality?
Meanwhile, he would reach a beautiful valley of flowers, the kind with the flora you only see near active volcanoes. He would eat and pace with the animals there, bereft of any contact with Blasphemies. She is too at peace, waiting for Venat to make the needed choice and sunder her into what she wishes. Even if he won't get to see it, so many incredible memories and places will etch into his soul foreve.
"Yes, split me apart and let the pieces join into my idol."
And that was the end of the last Azem. When he died, he knew he left behind a struggler that would avert the catastrophe and live happily, but he knew nothing of the chaos and dread his paintings would arise
#azem#final days#ff14#ffxiv#ffxiv fic#warning for description of restrainment that can give uncomfortable vibes but nothing coercive happens#thanatos#hc#i finally got his character nailed down after making him in the cloud dc so hehehe

Hello, how do you keep the humidity high enough for your ball pythons? My boy has a glass terrarium and I really have trouble with it even though I mist and pour water in his substrate. Should I buy an automatic mister?
Hey! Thanks for the question.
Automatic misters aren’t necessarily a great idea because you need to take them apart and clean them so often because they build up *so much damn bacteria* and other ungodly shit so fast. (Though, as I’m reading this out to Star, they’re telling me that if you get blacked out tubes for your mister, it helps with that a ton. So!)
In reality, humidity is affected by a ton of things - what heating and lighting do you use, what substrate do you use, where’s his water bowl in reference to his heating? What’s the opening like; is there mesh that needs to be covered at all?
What we’ve found is that using deep heat projectors over things like ceramic heat helps a ton, as well as checking in and pouring/mixing water into a mix of orchid bark and/or cypress mulch, coco husk and top soil. Sometimes we mix some moss in there to be fancy and bump it up more.
Humidity is a bastard! Don’t feel too awful for not being able to keep it completely perfect, you can add humidity hides if your bab really needs it. Also make sure that your bowl is big enough for him to soak in if needed!

So today I thought I would do something different than my normal posts that consist of furry reylo porn or yelling at antis to get the fuck out of the tags to show off some of my plants.
Because there are fewer things I love more than reylo or being furry trash and that’s plants.
This is a terrarium I put together about a month ago after finding this wonderful glass jar at an antique market. I think they were asking 15ish bucks for it and the only work I had to do was apply a few coats of polyurethane to the bottom of the lid so moisture wouldn’t fuck up the wood.
They’re incredibly simple to put together. Everything you’d need to make one is generally laying around your house already. The biggest concern is the dirt itself since it could be harboring bacteria or pests that can be a headache at best or completely destroy all your hard work at worst. It’s a good idea to sterilize it but that shit is as simple as putting it into bakeware and cooking it. I use the baking method in an oven but you can also use a microwave so I’ve been told.
Both processes require you add enough water to make sure the materials are damp but not soaking wet since the steaming is a huge part of the sterilization process.
Originally I had some wood features inside the terrarium along with a nice little mushroom shelf for the air plant to sit on but my sterilization process for wood needs some work. The dirt sterilized fine but whatever fungus is in the wood I collected couldn’t be stopped with boiling or baking since a week after installing it they started to grow a fine hairlike fungus that aggressively coated everything it touched. Currently the air plant is just sitting on some rocks I put in there while I troubleshoot that issue.
The elf thyme and strawberry begonia are both plants I have in regular pots up in the attic so I just took cuttings and planted them.
All of my moss is collected locally, some of it from my own yard and I encourage it’s growth anywhere I feel it might flourish. Maybe one day with enough love and care my yard will consist entirely of violets, clover, and thick luxurious moss.
My partner feeds into my plant lust far too often and bought me the jewel orchid as a gift which I am forever grateful for. Photos do not do this plant justice. It almost looks like someone brushed gold sparkle mica powder delicately into the veins and the sunlight makes it glimmer like the skin of a killer Bella.
The long plant that I may or may not have correctly identified as an inch plant/wandering jew was gifted to me as a very small cutting so I had no idea how tall it would get so quickly. Like I said I only put this terrarium together a few weeks ago and the cuttings were level to the dirt layer. It’s probably not going to stay in here as it’s trying desperately to crawl out of the terrarium and honestly would probably look nicer in a hanging pot.
Neat textures on the leaves though.
Now the smaller glass terrarium was put together about a year ago and is very well established. I call it my baby terrarium because it’s filled with babies from some of my other plants.
The air plant in this terrarium is around 5 years old now, so hardly a baby anymore but she’s still a baby to me. That reddish color she’s getting on the tips of her leaves means she’s reaching maturity and will soon flower and make pups of her own. Air plants don’t require pollination to make pups so if your patient enough your air plants will give you babies.
This terrarium is made up of my orchid’s baby that took quite the effort to produce, which is a fun story for another day.
And a baby from one of the air plants.
Originally when I pulled this baby off the momma I paired it with a small chunk of wood I had collected from a morel mushroom hunt that had a neat moss growing on it in a open jar. Besides general maintenance and care I didn’t separate the two from each other for weeks at a time and in good bromeliad fashion the pup grew aerial roots she immediately used to anchor herself to the bark chunk. I cannot separate them without damaging the anchors not that I would ever have a reason to.
The roots on these plants don’t serve a parasitical purpose. They are legit just there to allow them to anchor into the tree crotches (lol crotch) so they don’t get blown to the ground during storms. Most air plants grow on host trees in the wild without the need for dirt. If you ever find yourself in the southern parts of North America/northern parts of South America look for them hanging out on tree branches and you may find a few growing wild in their natural habitats.
It does make the watering process quite comical since I can’t remove the wood and moss bit I have to chuck the whole thing into a jug of water for a few minutes. The moss doesn’t seem to mind.
We do this once a week, with spritzing from a spray bottle in between those waterings. Along with my gentle affirmation that they are both good babies are they’re growing so well.
And that concludes this long post about some of my plants. For now.
Meow if you’ll excuse me I must return to my other passions which is reylo and furry dongs.
